LIM KOPI BE HAPPY!
Eccentric Lingoes of Singapore’s Kopitiam Culture -
Nicknames for popular drinks in Singapore

(Teh Tarik)
Teh tarik (literally "pulled tea") is a hot milk tea beverage which can be commonly found in restaurants,
outdoor stalls and kopi tiams within the Southeast Asian countries of Malaysia and Singapore.
Its name is derived from the pouring process of "pulling" the drink during preparation.
It is made from black tea and either condensed milk or evaporated milk.

(Diao Yu)
Tiao He or Diao Yu basically means Fishing. Chinese Tea doesn’t at all taste fishy
but the action of dipping your teabag kinda resembles a lazy fisherman trying to fish on a languid river on a humid sunny day.

(Michael Jackson)
A reference of Micheal Jackson “Black or White”
h the black coming from the Chin Chow/ Grass Jelly and the white from the Soy Bean Milk.

(Sugarcane Juice)
Sugar Cane Juice is a delightfully refreshing drink that is made fresh on the spot with each order.
The canes are fed into a press which extracts the sweet, green juice smoothly and easily.
A slice of lemon can be added to give a refreshing tartness to your drink.

Clementi (Lemon Tea / Clementi)
“Lemon Tea” rhymes with ‘Clementi’, a neighbourhood and MRT Station in Singapore.

(Teh O Siew Dai)
Teh O= Tea without Sugar
Siew Dai= Less Sugar
Teh O Siew Dai= Hot Tea with Less Sugar
Teh O =
Siew Dai= 少糖

(Kopi O)
Kopi O= Black Coffe with Sugar Added

(Chinese Fried Dough with Coffee/ Youtiao with Coffee)
Fancy way to eat youtiao is to dip it in the coffee,
indulging yourself with tasting experience where East meets West.

(Teh/ Kopi) Peng Bao
Take Away Iced Version of your drink
The best thing is you can basically mix these codewords together.
You can order a Kopi-C Peng, Gao, Siew Dai for example.

(Bandung)
Bandung, sirap bandung, or air bandung is a drink popular in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
It consists of evaporated milk or condensed milk flavored with rose cordial syrup, giving it a pink color.

(Tai Ka Ho!)
Tai Ka Ho means ‘Hello Everyone’ in Cantonese, some sort of greeting.
There is an advertisements for Horlicks had this song that goes ‘Ho-Ho-Ho…’.

Mino Dinosaur
Milo is called Tak Kiu which translates to ‘ Kicking a ball’.
Due to its packaging starring athletes,
supposedly mostly footballers kicking a ball hence the namesake.
Milo Dinosaur & Milo Godzilla
Milo Dinosaur consists of Milo topped with a heap of Milo or Horlicks powder.
Milo Godzilla is like the cherry on the pie, one to two scoops of smooth, sweet vanilla ice cream makes a delicious way to beat the heat

Thank You
Have A Fantabulous 2018
